The names

The courtyard lights its lanterns

A henna is the night the bride’s house stops pretending to be calm. Dina’s grandmother strung the first lanterns across Howsh El Toot for her own daughters, and the hooks are still in the walls.

His mother arrived with a tray from the oldest sweet shop in El Mansoura, and Dina’s grandmother inspected it like a customs officer. The tray passed.

    The date is set

The families set the wedding for a Friday — which made the Thursday before it, by every rule the city knows, the night of the henna.

Let them know

On a real suite this is where guests reply — a private link per household, chased on WhatsApp, with the list handed to your planner as a spreadsheet. It is switched off here, because a sample suite would be collecting replies for a couple who does not exist.

Wear something you can dance in. Everything else is optional.

A henna suite in the lantern register: strings of lit fawanis over a courtyard the colour of embers — the loudest night of the five, and its running order knows it.

Two things on this page are priced separately from the site: the story in chapters, and the reply list. Both are drawn in so you can see what they do — the replies are not being collected, because the couple is invented.
