How it works

Everything a planner needs in order to put us in a schedule, and everything you need in order to know what you are agreeing to. No number on this page is aspirational.

The shape of a commission

  1. 1

    Day one

    You write to us

A few questions, one page. We answer within one working day, by name.

  2. 2

    Week one

We talk, and you see the stocks

A call, or an hour in Cairo. Once printed pieces exist you will hold them before you commit to anything; until then we will show you the stocks and finishes we intend to use and name the press.

  3. 3

    Weeks two to four

    We draw

A design board first: palette, stocks, finishes. Then the site and the pieces, with the one round of visual changes every commission carries.

  4. 4

    Weeks four to six

You approve the proof, then it goes live

A full proof of the site, on its own private link, before anybody outside the two families sees it. Nothing goes live until you have said yes to it.

How long each piece takes

From the day the deposit clears and the wording is settled. Every piece runs in parallel where it can — a suite of three does not take three times as long.

  • Event Sitetwo to three weeks
  • Animated Invitationtwo to three weeks
  • Printed Invitationtwo to four weeks
  • Save the Dateone to two weeks
  • Identity Systemthree to five weeks
  • Atelierten to sixteen weeks

When to book

Six to eight weeks before you want to send. For an identity system carried across several events, three months. We take rush work under fourteen days at 35 per cent again, when a slot is free — but rushed wording is where mistakes get printed, so we would rather you booked early than paid more.

Changes

One round of visual changes is included in every piece. A second is 6,000. Wording is different: you change your own text whenever you like, as often as you like, at no cost and without asking us — which is what makes a website worth more than a file.

Wording freezes ten days before you send. Not to be difficult: past that point a change means re-rendering every piece and re-checking every Arabic line, and a rushed Arabic correction is exactly how a name goes out misspelled to four hundred people.

Payment

Half to begin, half on delivery. The first half is not refundable once drawing starts, because it is the drawing you are paying for. Payment is by InstaPay, against an invoice carrying your order reference.

What you own

The artwork drawn for you is yours — the monogram, the vector files, the print-ready originals. We keep the right to show the work, unless you buy the privacy rider, in which case nothing of yours is ever shown, posted or drawn on again.

The music

Whatever scores your invitation has to be cleared for it, and we will tell you what the licence is before you send anything. Note the honest exception: the two sites shown as our own work were built for our wedding, before this was a house, and they carry commercial recordings we have not licensed for commercial use. That is exactly why they are shown as recordings and why the demo is silent.

If the date moves

A site is re-dated at no cost — that is the point of building on a database rather than shipping a file. Print already at press cannot be recalled; print not yet at press is re-set for the cost of the press run only.

That is the whole of how it runs. If it sounds like the way you want to work, the next step is an hour of conversation.
